I found this amazing illustration over on Meg’s site and it’s a great way to explain how a bobbin works on a sewing machine.

The workings of a sewing machine is most complicated. During my past years of struggling with it, it has become my enemy and I often cursed the inventor.
Though I found it very difficult to operate, it has brought much convenience to us. One student with one sewing machine in one simple room, may only produce one small apron, but a thousand machines with thousands of workers make a big difference.
After seeing this clip, I have gained repect towards the inventor, not only he has created a clever machine, he also has brought convenience to the human kind around the world.
Hidden, you're right. There are things that we take them for granted. At the modern age, the production of our daily necessities are automated. We simply don't think how they are made. For instance, have you thought about how to make shoes?
I've seen my mum using a sewing machine, but I didn't know how it worked. After seeing the clip, I know that it is more complicated than I imagined.
